Linear servo drives were almost exclusively analog until the introduction of SERCOS standardized open digital servo interfaces in 1991. Digital communication between motion controllers and drive amplifiers followed and have evolved with enhanced speed, control and accuracy all the while allowing greater complexity through multiple axes of motion.
