Product ReleaseServo Motor - 145 oz-in (1Nm) NEMA 23 Frame Servo Motor
![]() QuickSilver Controls, Inc. expands its current line of servo motors with the QCI-A23K-3. This NEMA 23 frame motor generates 145 oz-in (1.0Nm) continuous torque, 165 oz-in (1.1Nm) peak torque, and 58W peak mechanical power. The 23K-3 comes standard with an 8000 count/rev encoder and is available in both IP50 and IP65 (wash down) packages. When combined with QuickSilver’s line of easy to use servo controller/drivers, this motor creates a high torque servo control system for speeds up to 2000 RPM. With QCI’s ability to handle inertial miss-matches of 100:1, this motor is ideal for driving large flywheel loads without additional gearing. The 23K-3, like QCI’s other NEMA 17 and 23 frame servos, requires only a single cable for both encoder and motor signals. The 23K-3 lists at $240 and has a system cost (including controller, cable and motor) starting at $795 (OEM 500 piece $511). The 23K-3 is an economical solution for motion control applications including semiconductor, packaging, medical and food processing. Please contact us for a detailed datasheet. ![]() QuickSilver Controls adds the DMX512 serial protocol to its SilverDust™ line of servo motor controllers. This popular entertainment industry standard (ETSA E1.11-2004) allows a master show controller to broadcast a packet of information up to 44 times per second (250K baud) over an RS-485 line. The DMX frame contains 512 bytes or "Slots" of data to control such things as lighting dimmers, fog machines, and now QuickSilver’s servo motors. Each piece of equipment is pre-configured to only receive data from its Slot. Therefore, all the show elements are synchronized. Multiple DMX Slots can be “mapped” to multiple servo controller registers. Since the SilverDust is a programmable motor controller, the data can be used for anything. ...More >> OEM Servo Motor Controller/Driver Board by QuickSilver Controls

![]() QuickSilver Controls’ SilverDust servo controller/driver is now capable of doing rotary knife applications. Rotary knife systems are widely used to cut, seal or perforate material moving along a conveyor. A rotary knife system consists of a cylinder with a knife blade fastened along the longitudinal axis. As the cylinder rotates, it cuts the material passing underneath it. During the cut, the tangential knife velocity must match the linear speed of the material. During the rest of the revolution, the knife must either speed up or slow down to be ready for the next cut. ...More >> Motor Controller - Servo Motor Controller / Driver

QuickSilver Makes Joystick Control Easy
QuickSilver Controls, Inc., line of controller/drivers for servo control of NEMA 17, 23 and 34 frame stepmotors accommodates a simple analog joystick input to control position, velocity or torque. Joysticks are useful for augmenting complex motion control systems for such things as computerized microscopes and vision systems. On the fly, the controller can switch from joystick control to automated control. An example would be using the joystick to pan around a product, pressing the button at several “interesting” points. The controller would be able to memorize these points and move back to them latter for a more detailed inspection.

QuickSilver Adds CAN to the SilverDust
QuickSilver Controls, Inc., adds CAN bus to its SilverDust™ IGB servo motion controller/driver for servo control of NEMA 17 and 23 frame stepmotors. The CANopen compatible interface is fully isolated and supports up to 64 devices on the 1MB bus. The addition of CANopen enhances the motion controller’s unique ability to servo microstep motors by allowing one servo to modify the motion of another servo. CANopen may be used to interface to other CANopen products (Master or Slave) or as a “local” bus for peer-to-peer register sharing for such things as encoder position, velocity, torque and I/O. The motion controller’s serial port (RS232 or RS485) is still available for interface to a host such as a PLC, HMI or PC.

QuickSilver Controls Offers Right Angle Motor Cable Adapters
For those applications where you need to squeeze a NEMA 17 or NEMA 23 motor into a tight spot, QuickSilver Controls, Inc., now offers adapters for its 15 pin D shell motor connector (D15HD). The QCI-D15HD-R1 routes the cable towards the motor shaft and the QCI-D15HD-R2 routes the cable away from the shaft. Both adapters provide a height profile of 1 inch. Screws are included to secure the adapter to the motor. Both adapters are designed to handle the full horsepower of either a SilverNugget N2 or SilverDust D2 servo controller/driver including both motor and encoder feedback signals. For more details, see the technical document “QCI-TD049 D15HD Rt Angle Adapter - QCI-D15HD-R1 -R2” on QuickSilver’s website(www.QuickSilverControls.com).

QuickSilver Controls Programmable Limit Switch added to Servo Controller QuickSilver Controls, Inc., adds a Programmable Limit Switch (PLS) output to its SilverDust™ controller/driver for servo control of NEMA 17 and 23 frame microstep motors.
The PLS command can be configured to use any of the motion controller’s possible 23 I/O to change states (i.e. high to low or low to high) at more than 150 pre-defined trigger points. A modulo may be selected to repeat the cycle.
The controller compares the stepmotor position with the trigger position every 120 microseconds. When the trigger point is reached, the state of the I/O toggles automatically and the PLS command starts looking for the next trigger point.
Output triggering, trigger point values and number of trigger points may be changed dynamically even while the PLS command is running in the background. In factory automation, this could be used to change an output’s firing sequence for each part coming down the assembly line.

QuickSilver Controls SilverDust Servo Controller Adds Open Loop Operation San Dimas, CA - QuickSilver Controls Inc. has added open loop operation to its servo controller, the SilverDust. For years QuickSilver has produced servo controllers for microstep motors and now it has optimized the SilverDust to also operate a stepmotor in the traditional open loop configuration. Open loop operation is ideal for slower applications that do not require encoder feedback. SilverDust provides a powerful controller without the expense of an encoder and sophisticated cable. A savings of about $100 (list).
To make putting together open loop systems easier, QCI now sells its stepmotors and cabling for open loop operation.
For more details, see the datasheets on QuickSilver's website.

SilverDust IGB - Servo Controller/Driver for Microstep Motors with 16 I/O QuickSilver Controls, Inc., known for its ability to servo microstep motors, released its most feature rich single axis controller/driver yet. The SilverDust IGB, part of the SilverLode controller family, is designed to servo, QuickSilver's high torque NEMA 17 and NEMA 23 frame I-Grade motor/encoders and includes breakouts for power, communications and I/O. Closed loop control (servo) of a stepmotor, provides all the accuracy of a traditional servomotor but with superior torque for applications up to a few thousand RPM and at a lower cost.
The IGB only uses a single cable for both motor and encoder signals. At 50', the cable has minimal voltage drop and excellent noise rejection. This combined with the IGB's new ability to upload encoder and motor information from the motor's on-board, non-volatile memory makes initialization as simple as plugging in the motor and pressing a button.

QCI is able to commutate a high pole motor (step motor) to form an AC brushless motor. QCI uses encoder based position feedback to determine the position error and dynamically varies the motor torque to achieve the sought position. The result of this methodology is a high torque servomotor. As with other servomotors, when the load is removed the motor does not need to generate torque. The motor current decreases, thus reducing the power consumption and heat generated.
