OEM Servo Motor Controller with CAN
image Print
QuickSilver Servo Motor ControllerQuickSilver has added a CAN option to its smallest (2"/52mm x 2.5"/63mm) most cost effective servo motor controller . CAN can be configured for peer-to-peer, master or slave which allows the controllers to share I/O and registers with other CANopen enabled SilverDust controllers or3rd party CANopen devices (i.e. I/O blocks, encoders, PLCs...). For a multi-axis system, connect several MG-Cs, make one the master and let the others receive motion commands over CAN.

This single axis, programmable controller is specially designed to servo 3rd party stepper
motors creating a closed loop stepper system. It also includes serial communications (RS-
232, RS-485), and 7 I/O. The RS-232/RS-485 serial network runs independently in parallel toCAN for supervisory control from a host (i.e. PC, PLC, HMI..).

The 7 bi-directional I/O, 12V-48V input power, and communications signals are accessed
through the DB15HD port and can be separated using one of our popular breakouts (QCI-BOB,QCI-BO-B1, QCI-BO-B1A). For 24V I/O operations, QuickSilver recommends the
QCI-BO-B52 breakout.

QuickSilver Controls Offers a New Compact SilverDust™ Servo Controller/Driver For 17 and 23 Frame Step Motors
QuickSilver Controls Offers a New Compact SilverDust Servo ControllerDriver For 17 and 23 Frame Step MotorsThe SilverDust is a highly compact motion controller and driver for running micro step NEMA 23 and smaller motors closed loop.

So how does a “Step Motor” become a servo?

“Step motors” are really classified as high pole count AC synchronous motors. QCI is able to commutate a high pole motor (step motor) to form an AC brushless motor. QCI uses encoder based position feedback to determine the position error and dynamically varies the motor torque to achieve the sought position.

The result of this methodology is a high torque servomotor. As with other servomotors, when the load is removed the motor does not need to generate torque. The motor current decreases, thus reducing the power consumption and heat generated.
