Product ReleaseCouplings - R+W America Now Offers Thermoplastic Couplings in Series TX1
![]() New TX couplings series for low cost, corrosion resistance, light weight, quiet running Unifying the goals of enhancing performance and durability with cost savings, R+W has developed the ECOLIGHT- TX1 series of molded thermoplastic insert couplings. The most significant technical advantages are a dramatically reduced mass and moment of inertia, accompanied by a high level of chemical compatibility and tolerance for heat, making the TX couplings ideal for pump drives and other power transmission applications. These plastics also provide major cost reduction compared to metals, as the result of decreased production times and relatively low material cost. Additionally the plastic to metal interface between the coupling hub and the shafting allows for much quieter operation than with metallic couplings. The material of the hubs is a glass fiber reinforced polyamide developed for rigidity and corrosion resistance. Accelerated life testing involved 40 million load reversals at the coupling's rated torque. Zero change to the integrity of the coupling keyway was discovered, as the steel key itself was the more brittle and compliant of the two materials. The thermal stability of the material is also critical, as an H7 shaft fit tolerance for the hub must be maintained regardless of the environments in which the couplings will be used. R+W TX couplings have an elastomer element that is press fit between the two precision molded coupling halves giving it zero backlash and guaranteed concentricity. The elastomer insert is available in several Shore hardness values allowing the designer to choose how great of a damping effect is required for the application. The TX1 series coupling is designed for a pure keyway connection and is molded or bored to customer shaft specifications. Shaft mounting is achieved via a keyway and a set screw. Sizes are available for torque capacities ranging from 2Nm (17.7 lbs/in) to 660Nm (5841 lbs/in) and bore diameters from 8 to 45mm and .375 to 1.75 inch with standard or metric keyways. Special shaft interface, such as spline hubs are also available upon request. Contact R+W America 630.521.9911 for more information or visit www.rw-america.com

The ability of a single piece bellows coupling to compensate for misalignment is limited in most cases to approximately 0.008” of lateral offset. ...More >> Torsionally Rigid Couplings Enhance Servo Performance
Servo systems more often than not require that mechanical components have a high torsional stiffness in order to perform properly in applications requiring rapid acceleration and deceleration of high inertia loads. Flexible couplings usually have the lowest torsional stiffness of any component in a motion system. All too often couplings are selected based on factors other than torsional stiffness, and frequently to the detriment of system performance. Proper servo coupling selection can pay off when considering the bigger picture.Engineers go to great lengths to ensure that inertia mismatch between the load and the servo motor is compensated for.... ...More >> Expanded Line of Servo Insert Couplings Now Offered by R+W America

R+W America Offers SK2/1.5 Series of Miniature Torque Limiting Safety Couplings
R+W has developed the unique patented Model SK2/1.5 miniature safety coupling. Ideal for ultra-small applications in the electronics, semiconductor, and medical industries. Torque overload protection is often overlooked in machine design until something jams, resulting in expensive damage and down time. Electrical current limitation only stops the transmission of power after a mechanical overload has already taken place, and can not remove energy which is already in the moving workpiece in the case of a machine crash. The R+W Series SK2/1.5 miniature safety coupling was developed specifically for this purpose. It uses a patented ball detent system that is absolutely backlash free and will disengage within 1 to 3 milliseconds when an overload is detected. This is normally fast enough to significantly reduce the impact of a machine crash on other components. These unique couplings are manufactured with a stainless steel flexible bellows, exhibiting very high torsional rigidity with zero backlash.

R+W America Offers the BK5 Series Precision Press-Fit Servo Bellow Couplings for Testing Applications In an effort to address increasing demands for productivity and functionality, R+W has developed the unique BK5 series of Bellow Couplings. This coupling features a keyed tapered hub design, allowing it to be quickly mounted and dismounted in the many situations where radial access to the coupling is limited or non-existent. The two coupling halves simply plug together axially, allowing the motor or gearbox to mate with the driven element automatically during mounting to the adapter flange. When the male coupling half is located on the drive shaft such that there will be a slight compression of the bellows during installation, this coupling is very highly torsionally rigid with zero backlash.
Conventional servo couplings are of a single piece design, with a radial tightening screw on each end. This requires the assembler to access the coupling through a hole in the adapter flange in order to lock it to a shaft.
