Fine speed control with Round Mercury and low voltage torque motors
Round Mercury Low Voltage Torque Motor from IngeniaRound Mercury digital servo drives have been successfully integrated with low voltage(36V) torque/direct drive motors to work on hi-tech applications demanding high torques (up to 6Nm) at low speeds.

The applications were very critical in terms of velocity stability (approx. 0.1rpm).

The torque motor included a high resolution optical encoder to allow the drive for fine control of the velocity and the position loops.

Thanks to its compact and round design (55.88mm diameter), the board was easily stacked at the back of the motor, thus reducing the required length of the wiring.

Driving motors easily with joysticks
Mercury Servo Drives allow for driving motors through resistive joysticks connected to its external analog inputs. Users just need to configure the Mercury Servo Drive to work on analog command reference mode.

Users can choose either to work on position or velocity profile. Mercury will use the actual defined profile values to determine the velocity, acceleration and deceleration to use.

Mercury Servo Drive controlling B21 robots through CAN bus or 2-axis Joystick
Mercury Servo Drives from Ingenia-CAT have been successfully integrated into the mobile base of B21 robots from Real World Interface (RWI). B21 includes three DC motors for displacing the robot and one additional DC motor for rotating movements. They are now all controlled with Mercury Servo Drives.

With Mercury Servo Drives users can control the robot through a CAN bus (network command source) or through an external 2-axis joystick (analog command source).

When working in network command source mode a laptop including a simple USB-to-CAN interface can be used to drive the system.

Both modes of Mercury, position profile and velocity profile, can be used to control the movements of the robot.

Round Mercury digital Servo Drive Controller
Digital servo drive controller for brushless (BLDC, BLAC) and DC motors

In one single physical device, the Round Mercury digital servo drive includes the control and power amplifier needed to run brushless PMSM motors and DC motors. The controller can be operated from RS232 or CAN with hardware Node-ID.

Its voltage operation range allows it to be used in industry or robotics, and its reduced size (55.88mm diameter) allows the controller to be integrated into critical-size applications.

Thanks to the MCLib software, the device parameters can be easily configured and monitored, using simple functions written in C/C++.

Mercury servo drive on scientific laboratory equipment
Mercury servo drives have been recently integrated successfully on several scientific laboratory equipments (mixing, centrifuges and stirrers).

The servo drives were operated on velocity mode (up to 20000rpm) as well as on position mode.

In some machines it was also used its homing mode to set a reference (zero position) for next positioning movements. The positioning was point-to-point trapezoidal profiled, with accelerations, decelerations and speeds fully configurable by the user.

Mercury servo drive controlling high precision guide actuators
Mercury servo drive has been integrated successfully on high precision guide actuators achieving positionings of 1um without the use of any motor gear head.

The assembly was just made up of the precision guide actuator, a DC motor with an encoder and the Mercury servo drive. No motor gear head was necessary thus reducing the overall assembly cost.

Using the homing mode, Mercury servo drive set the reference (position zero) for positioning movements. The positioning was point-to-point trapezoidal profiled with fully configurable accelerations, decelerations and speeds.

Antenna positioning system based on Mercury servo drives
Mercury Digital Servo Drive Positioning System by IngeniaIngenia-CAT has developed an antenna positioning system based on two Mercury digital servo drive controllers for the European Space Agency (ESA).

The antennas were steerable in azimuth by brushless permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) controlled through Mercury servo drives. The onboard computer interfaced with servo drives via RS232.

The system allowed for two independent rotational movements within the same axis and was ready to be mounted on a 5 meters long mast.
