PBC Linear Designs Custom Hinged Mount for De-stacking System Provides enhanced pivoting alignment for MT linear actuators

Automation is a continually evolving way to improve efficiency, especially on the production-line. While system integration can incur high start-up costs, manufacturing lines running 24/7 save thousands in annual labor costs. This was the case for a newly designed bottle cleanser packaging and sorting conveyor using PBC Linear actuating systems in a palletizer/de-stacker. However, during the early stages of testing, the actuators were found to be loaded beyond their rating, and damaged when the system misaligned by out of position product pallets. This resulted in machine shutdowns and potential safety concerns. PBC Linear's hardworking engineering team was brought in to assess the problem and produce a workable solution for the de-stacking mechanism. |

Moving light aircraft around presents a similar problem to that of caravans. For example, transferring a small bi-plane from a hangar onto a runway apron requires considerable physical effort and great care to ensure the wing tips and tail are not damaged. While there are petrol-driven maneuvering devices available these can be unreliable if they are only used occasionally or allowed to get damp. Reversing is difficult too and the operator needs to take great care with the clutch and gearbox to ensure smooth operation. |

PI Wins Substantial Hexapod Order from General Dynamics Daughter for ALMA Millimeter Radio Telescope

Physik Instrumente (PI) has been awarded a contract by Vertex Antenna Systems, a daughter of General Dynamics C4 Systems, to provide 25 six-axis hexapod alignment systems and motion controllers. These custom high-precision micropositioning systems will be employed to align the secondary reflectors in 25 twelve-meter telescopes - the North American portion of the Atacama Large Millimeter Array Project (ALMA) radio telescope. |
